WHAT WE DO

WHAT WE DO

Independence House programs dedicated to providing free and confidential services for teenagers who have been impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Our teen services are accessible to all teens who are ages 13-17, all genders, all cultures and all languages. Independence House is a LGBTQ Safe Space. Teens are encouraged to work with a counselor who can help determine which services may be most beneficial.

An Independence House teen counselor will meet with teens at any Independence House office (Hyannis, Falmouth, Orleans, Provincetown). In some instances, Independence House can meet with teens at your school if allowed by your school with the proper private space provided.

Independence House teen counselors are also available to talk confidentially through the chat messenger on the teen website (during business hours), through direct phone text at 508-375-5144 (during business hours), and anytime through the Independence House 24-hour hotline (800-439-6507).  Visit our Connect With Us page for all ways to connect with Independence House.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Independence House provides short-term crisis counseling, safety planning and resource assistance to teens impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Appointments are not necessary and there is no waiting list.

Through our philosophy of empowerment and self-help Independence House counselors work with teens to help them make informed decisions.

If mental health or substance abuse issues are impacting a teens ability to be safe, referrals will be made to augment services. In any referral, the individual’s decisions are respected.

TEEN SUPPORT GROUPS

Independence House offers support groups for teenagers faced with domestic and/or sexual violence and who are ages 13-17.

SECONDARY SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC OR SEXUAL VIOLENCE GROUPS

A secondary survivor is a significant other to the victim such as a sibling, a friend, a parent, or anyone involved with an individual who is a victim.

PREVENTION, EDUCATION, AND OUTREACH

Independence House partners with select community organizations, schools, faith-based organizations and businesses to promote communities free from intimate partner violence through primary prevention practices.  These are long-term partnerships with those who share our vision to change social norms regarding violence.

Independence House staff will come to your school, community organization, religious institution or business and provide information regarding the agency services as well as organize awareness raising events and encourage the partnership of our community. Independence House also provides workshops for youth, parents, professionals and community leaders on many topics. Click here to learn more about the Prevention, Education and Outreach program.

Independence House currently offers the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) curriculum in ten Cape Cod High Schools. Teens who are interested in taking part in the MVP program at your school can contact Chris Morin at Independence House at: ChrisM@indhouse.net or call 508-771-6507 x230 and we will put you in touch with your school’s adviser for the MVP group.
