In your initial session with your counselor, you will hopefully establish how you’d like to benefit from counseling at Independence House. It may be as simple as having someone to vent to, moving past a difficult situation, safety planning, or working through the trauma you’ve experienced. Ideally, counseling is a time for you, in any way you’d like to use it. If you like to talk, we’ll listen. If you like to write, we’ll give you prompts to help you think. If you don’t know where to begin, we have plenty of interactive materials to help you find the words to piece together your story. We’re just here to help you get to a place where you’re able to make decisions and feel confident in your choices regarding your relationships with others. How you feel about yourself while coming to counseling is important to us, and we’ll do everything we can to help you get to a place where you can identify and build on your own strengths.
